John Asher murdered Pat Mackay on 27 August 1820.

John Asher was an itinerant quack doctor who murdered Pat Mackay, an Irish pedlar, in a fit of jealousy.

He was sitting in the Bull Inn, Warminster when the young girl with whom he co-habited came in and sat down on a pile of straw. As soon as she had sat down Pat Mackay sat down next to her and put his arm around her neck and his face over hers. John Asher then jumped up and stabbed Pat Mackay three times.

After he said 'Im done, I did it and im glad of it'.

Both John Asher and Pat Mackay had a wife and three children.
